The masterpiece first appeared in German in 1940 and then disappeared, only to reappear in English in 1949. It was a sensation, the largest and most scientific defense of human freedom ever published. As is well known, Mises's book is the best defense of capitalism ever written. It covers basic economics through the most advanced material. Reading this book is the best way you could ever dream up to learn economics. Every attempt to study economics should include a thorough examination of this...

Two young boys with autism who used the picture exchange communication system were taught to solve problems (improvise) by using descriptors (functions, colors, and shapes) to request desired items for which specific pictures were unavailable. The results of a multiple baseline across descriptors showed that training increased the number of improvised requests, and that these skills generalized to novel items, and across settings and listeners in the natural environment. (Contains 1 table and 2...

I got the Idea for this torrent when I stumbled upon Jonathan Harnum's 'Basic Music Theory, How to Read, Write and Understand Music' while browsing my favortie newsgroup (a.b.sheet.music). I swept the usenets uncriticvally for every ebook I could find relating to the subject, weeded out the dupes and fakes, and wrapped it up. I haven't read even a percentage of it yet, so don't blame me if some of it's crap. I have skimmed quite a few of them, and there are great lessons to be had even for...

Many classical pianists want to develop jazz piano skills because they have acquired: (1) an awareness of the importance of jazz as an art form; (2) an attraction to the sophistication and complexity of jazz music; (3) an interest in exploring contemporary music styles; and (4) a desire to become involved with a type of music which is viewed as enjoyable. This study addresses the need for a short course in basic jazz piano skills oriented toward the special interests, skills, and attitudes of...

O sieh, wie klar das Weltall schimmert! Es ist ein Glanz um Alles her (See how brightly the universe shines! There is a radiance on everything) Arnold Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht is a chamber symphonic poem for string sextet originally composed in 1899. It predates Schoenberg’s dodecaphonic serial technique, for which he is more commonly known, but already in this early work we see significant chromaticism which explores the limits of western tonality. In musical terms, the transfigured...
